10 Myths And Facts About Ayurveda

Ayurvedic HerbsAyurveda is a system of natural medicine that dates back to thousands of years. Let us know about some prominent myths and facts about ayurveda.

Myth 1. Ayurveda is Purely Herb Based

Strange as it may seem, Ayurvedic treatment is based not only on herbs. Ingredients such as Ghee, milk, oil, honey, ginger oil, rock salt, minerals, fruits, ash and naturally fermented alcohol are common ingredients in Ayurvedic preparations.

In Ayurveda, there are no tables that determine that this herb cures this disease, and the other grass is another disease. Ayurveda is related to making natural medicine that has dozens, and sometimes hundreds of components, some of them, of course, herbs. Usually, Ayurveda does not call for the use of separate herbs.

Myth 2. Ayurveda accepts only products of plant origin

This is another common misconception. In addition to the widely used ghee, some Ayurvedic drugs use sheep and fish oils and even animal bones.

If in order to cure a disease or infirmity, a non-vegetarian medicine was required, the ancient Ayurvedic doctors always prescribe them.

Myth 3. Ayurvedic principles do not agree with modern science

According to Ayurveda, it was believed that illnesses are due to the increase and decrease of the so-called “tridosh” - Vata, Pita and Kapha.

These three elements cannot be detected as such in any part of the body, but they exist throughout the body and are responsible for the functioning of the motor, oxygen transport (Vata); digestion, metabolism, etc. (Pete); body structure, nutrition, etc. (Kapha).

There have been several attempts to reflect the theory of tridosh in the knowledge of the body, as modern medicine represents it. Many attempts have been made by practicing physicians who have the same education both in Ayurveda and Allopathy.

Despite this, Ayurveda has even better confirmation than everyone else - it works! Tridosh theory developed thousands of years ago as a simple way of understanding human physiology. The fact that Ayurvedic drugs are acting is the best proof of the unerring nature of this simple theory.

Of course, since then many more interesting theories have appeared. The best Ayurvedic practitioners recognized and incorporated modern theories into practice.

Myth 4. Ayurvedic drugs are not clinically tested

Yes, many Ayurvedic drugs have not been clinically tested. But this concerns clinical trials in the sense of Allopathy.

In a deeper sense, all Ayurvedic drugs underwent a comprehensive clinical study. The real strength of Ayurveda lies in medical preparations that have been perfected over the centuries by practice and observation. Therefore, traditional Ayurvedic preparations surprise us with their complex combination of ingredients and proportions.

These are drugs that have been seriously tested, tested by millions of patients, women, and men, of all possible ages and constitutions.

Myth 5. Ayurvedic Herbs Always heal slowly

In fact, there are both slow-acting and high-speed herbs. It depends on the cause of the disease. Ayurveda does not treat the symptoms, as it often happens in Allopathy.

If the main cause of the disease causes fear, Ayurvedic treatment will take a lot of time, exploring and overcoming it. Nevertheless, many patients believe in exclusive and effective Ayurveda, even if their condition is not improved. But this is wrong, because a situation without improvement means an incorrectly diagnosed diagnosis.

Myth 6. Ayurveda can be studied independently and used, based on one’s own knowledge

Today, there are more and more people self-healing themselves according to Ayurveda. In the best case, such self-treatment will be ineffective, and at worst - dangerous.

The fact is that different people have a different physiological constitution, that in Ayurveda is called Prakriti. And the medicine prescribed for your friend may not suit you simply because your Prakriti (the natural ratio of Vata, Pita and Kapha) can be different. What is good for one person can be harmful to another! The task is only to find a qualified and experienced doctor to determine your Prakriti.

However, you can study Ayurveda. Just make sure that you get a knowledge from a good source. And always consult your doctor.

Myth 7. Ayurvedic drugs are always harmless

Perhaps this is the most dangerous myth. There is an opinion that Ayurvedic drugs are completely harmless, since they are made exclusively on the basis of herbs and natural components. Most plants consist of hundreds of molecules, some of which are toxic.

Ancient Ayurvedic doctors introduced some ingredients into the recipe to eliminate the side effect of others. A small number of plants have been isolated, completely safe, or those that can be used for a long time. Usually, such plants are treated with their nourishing, rather than medicinal, properties.

Remember the inscription: “Take under the supervision of a doctor.” The best manufacturers of Ayurvedic drugs usually label such an inscription with the most serious preparations.

Myth 8. Ayurvedic Massage is for Serious Cases

In Ayurveda, massage has never been treated as a panacea for all diseases. Massage is useful only in the general complex of ayurvedic treatment.

Moreover, most Ayurvedic massages require a special strict diet. Promoting procedures such as Ayurvedic massage, as a quick service for tourists, is not correct in the spirit of Ayurveda.

Myth 9. Patented drugs are better than traditional ones

The best choice is traditional Ayurvedic medicines because, For centuries, they have been sufficiently studied and passed through millions of patients. If a disease can be cured with a traditional Ayurvedic drug, this should be your priority choice, if not the only choice!

However, there are exceptions. There are patented drugs that are very effective in treating certain conditions. If the preference is given to them, it is essential to look at the manufacturer’s reputation.

Myth 10. Ayurveda is another direction in medicine

Of course, Ayurveda is another direction, but it covers much deeper aspects of your life. Ayurveda attacks root cause of disease first, instead of attacking symptoms .

For the effectiveness of Ayurvedic drugs should change their lifestyle. Healthy eating, good sleep, appropriate physical activity, etc. - all this forms the basis of Ayurveda. Some types of treatment require abstinence from sex, alcohol, smoking, and drugs.

Perhaps, Ayurveda is the first medical science that pays attention to the connection between the mind and the body in the process of treating the disease.

Emancipation of the mind from stress is the most important moment, ensuring the effectiveness of Ayurveda.
